Bank Holiday Weekend: info for businesses

Dear BID Businesses,

As we look forward to the Bank Holiday weekend, here’s some important information about events taking place in town:

➡️ Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday :

Funfair on The Esplanade (road closure in place)

- Thursday & Friday: 4pm – 9.30pm

- Saturday, Sunday, Monday: 1pm – 9.30pm

➡️ Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday

The Community Warden will be working additional hours so he’s on duty throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

➡️ Saturday 25th May: Bognor Regis Carnival:

This year’s carnival will be bringing its Flower Power, Summer of Love Theme through the town centre again this year – no doubt attracting a brilliant crowd to watch the procession, and lots of footfall both before and after.

➡️ Timings

The procession starts off from The Esplanade at 1.15pm, turning up Clarence Road and then parading the full length of High Street from east to west, before heading south down Waterloo Square to rejoin The Esplanade and make its way along to West Park.

The Carnival’s Facebook post suggests they’ll make it to West Park at around 2.15 to continue the fun with a range of performers, funfair rides and activities.

➡️ How this might affect your business:

There are a number of “rolling” road closures in place from 12 noon to 3pm on Saturday 25th. This means that they’ll close / reopen roads as soon as they safely can once the carnival’s gone through. Have a look at the Carnival route map below to see if you’re likely to be impacted.

Wherever you are located in the BID Area, your business might be affected – especially if you have to go in and out of town during the early afternoon (to do house viewings etc), or if you have deliveries or collections planned for this Saturday between 12 noon and 3pm. ‼️

➡️ How this might affect your customers:

If you have any in-person appointments booked for Saturday after 12, it might be a good idea to let your customers know about the carnival so they can build that into their travel plans in advance.

➡️ How do all these road closures affect buses etc?

With so many road closures in place on Saturday, you may have people asking you about buses, and whether temporary stops are in place etc.

I telephoned Stagecoach on 22nd May. They’ve said that “Normal bus stops are being served, but there might be some delays.” I’m not entirely sure how that’s going to work in practice, and it’s possible they’ll have to review that on the day, but...

Stagecoach have confirmed that they’ll show details on the “SERVICE UPDATES” section of their website: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/regional-service-updates/south/chichester-and-bognor-regis

Changes will also be communicated through the Stategcoach Twitter and Facebook pages, and their telephone lines will be staffed till 9pm: 0345 241 8000

I’ve contacted the Carnival organisers and they’ve committed to popping some laminated signs up in the bus stops to raise awareness.

Kindest regards,

Heather
